Holiday Town Santa Ponça nestles between Ses Penyes Roges cove and Santa Ponça cove
which opens to the west. On the northern side of the mouth of the bay there is a defence
tower known as Castellot de Santa Ponsa, built in the XIVth. century and which, like the
neighbouring Manor of Santa Ponça, belonged to the Marqués de Bellpuig in the middle of
XVIIth. century. This is quite obviously the historic centre of Calvià and Mallorca.
Here, the troops of King Jaume I disembarked on the beach on the 10th. September in 1229
to begin their conquest of the 'Mussulman Mayurqa'. Amid, olives, almonds and pines, Santa
Ponça, the residential area created as the 'holiday town' stretches around a bay, fringed
with a white sands and endless attractions and services for leisure and pleasure. Its
beaches, its marina, golf, riding, the exciting nightlife and its modern hotels provide
everything for those visitors who are looking for active holidays in modern surroundings,
with lovely scenery and good communications. Here there is a good balance between beach
and nightlife with disco's clubs and bars, particularly Irish Bars with live music. 30 km
South West of Palma.
